Durham Marlins update
An update on the exciting Durham Marlins, writes Gary Hollywood.
- Gary Hollywood has met with Durham City ASC and has agreed to put their Swim 21 bid together for Skill Development in time for the October deadline.
- Gary Hollywood has met with Durham City ASC and has agreed to put together recommendations as to what they need to do over the next twelve months as a club inorder to prepare for Swim 21 Competitive Development status.
- Gary Hollywood on behalf of the Marlins now liaises with Durham City School with respect to pool programming.
- Gary Hollywood has met with Kath Rochester (Durham Schools Sports Co-ordinator) and has agreed to develop Durham City's After Schools Swimming Clubs. Initially this will involve two schools where it is hoped members of DUSC will assist in the coaching delivery. The idea will be to feed these swimmers into Durham City ASC. Long term it is hoped that swimmers at Durham City ASC will persue their higher education at Durham University thereby having the opportunity to further develop their athletic goals at Durham.
- Swimmers participating in the After Schools Swimming Clubs will be known as "Mini Marlins".
- Gary Hollywood has met with Jeffrey Liddell (Director of Leisure - Durham City Council) to sell the vision of The Marlins.
- A new pool is planned for twenty four months time with the proposed site being Gilesgate Sixth Form College.
