ASA Level 1 teachers course

Durham City Amateur Swimming Club are running an ASA Level 1 Swimming Teachers course in early 2006, specifically for students, writes Nick Savage.

There are spaces for 10-16 people to complete 25-30 hours training in total. The course will be run either as a weekly course in Epiphany Term (probably on Saturdays) or as an intensive 4/5 day course after exams in Easter Term.

This course involves both classroom work and actual coaching on the poolside at Durham City Baths. The cost is normally more than £100, but will be heavily subsidised by the University in return for the students on the course practising their coaching skills on the kids down at Durham City ASC. This system of sports education and coaching is tried and tested in many other sports in Durham Sporting Club, of which DUSC and DCASC are founding members.

People who already have ASA Level 1 may be able to do their Lane Coach or Level 2 as part of this course.

This is an excellent opportunity for people who are looking to go into coaching or teaching after Uni, for people who coach back home, for people doing Duke of Edinburgh's awards and other community involvement / voluntary work projects and also for people who simply want to enhance their CVs.

These places are being offered to you before all other students, so please reply promptly if you are interested. Also please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have.
