Awesome AGM / Social last night (7th March) cheers for coming down and listening to all the husts, writes Jon Reilly. Thanks also to Heather for organising the meal and wine and TK for the Castlemaine (and cups!)
Over the weekend of 16th-18th February Durham University's swimmers once again travelled to Ponds Forge International Sports Centre, Sheffield to compete in their second major BUSA competition of the year, writes Erin Pearson.
Unlike most university sports there are only two major BUSA competitions a year in swimming, both held in Sheffield, writes Erin Pearson.
This is not an easy ride with so much pressure to perform over these three days and some swimmers performing ten times in one weekend. Last weekend saw the first of these competitions, the short course event (swum in a 25m pool) and Durham sent a strong team of twenty-six swimmers, nine girls and fifteen boys to represent the University.
As featured before the vacation two Durham University swimmers, Tom Kirk (Cuths) and Matthew Seegelaar (Hild & Bede), were not planning on spending their summer in the sun like many of the rest of us, but in hard training from one of sports' most gruelling events; the UK Ironman Triathlon, writes Erin Pearson.
Sorry for the delay, but finally here are the 2006 college gala results, writes Adam Jackson.
Two of our swimmers Tom Kirk (St Cuthberts) and Matt Seegelaar (St. Hild & St. Bede) are undertaking the 2006 UK Ironman Triathlon, one of the most gruelling endurance tests in the world, in order to raise money for St Cuthberts Hospice, writes Erin Pearson.
The Ironman Triathlon involves a continuous 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike ride, and 26.2 mile run. The event takes place on August 20th and they aim to raise £800 both for St. Cuthberts Society and to cover expenses. If you would like to sponsor Tom and Matt please visit www.justgiving.com/duscironman to make a donation.
This weekend saw the joint inaugural Durham University Old Boys weekend and inter-college swimming gala, writes Erin Pearson.
While many other University clubs have a strong Old Boys contingent this is the first time it has been attempted by the swim team and is hopefully something that will continue for many years to come.
Durham University Swimming Club are hosting the first inter collegiate swimming gala for over 5 years, writes Jon Reilly.
.We need teams of at least 4 boys and 4 girls from every college. We would like to see as many of the people that used to swim for a club at home at the gala as possible, but don't worry, any standards are welcome and encouraged to join in, especially as the pool is only 25 yards long!
